Ahhhhhh…the freshness of spring has arrived! The new lighter green leaves have appeared. The forest is still bare, but not for long. The birds sing renewal as well. And, the pollen is on its way.

Our trees have those yellowish clusters that are so visible. Knowing pollen season is coming and all that it entails – 1000s of sneezes (at least) – it dampens the spring enthusiasm.

But, that’s life, yes? There’s a contrast to everything. Up-down, here-there, hot-cold, you-me, on-off, happy-unhappy, flowering plants-not flowering plants, unreleased pollen-released pollen… I could literally go on and on with this!

For every subject, there are two subjects, fortunately. You agree with me, right? You love the contrast of this Earthly living, yes?

What? You don’t like it? Sometimes, it’s not a good deal?

Allow me to explain why it is always a great, beneficial, and wonderful deal for us humans to have the eternal contrast of our life here on Earth.

If all of our life on Earth only contained warm water, we would not know anything else but warm water. In fact, we wouldn’t know it was warm. It would only be water with no other descriptors for its temperature.

If everyone we meet was always kind and loving, we wouldn’t know anything else AND that we were receiving love all the time because we’d know nothing else.

It’s like always having ice cream for each meal. We might want to know something else. Just like we might want to experienced water that felt different than warm. But, how would we know there are many other dinner options if ice cream is the only option?

This expansion and the desire for expansion are what create our existence! Example: If Tiger Woods hadn’t been the young, fit, and trim athlete he was, the game of golf might still be played by older, semi-fit men. Because of Tiger’s contrast to what was, the game of golf is now transformed.

So the pollen in the trees is contrast for my experience and merriment of spring. I love the blooms and the newness. When the pollen is released for a month, I interact with my outdoors in a much different way then prior to pollen’s release. I appreciate the time I have before the release of the yellow powder so much more because it’s in contrast to the month I’ll spend more time inside. It provides me great, beneficial, and wonderful perspective.

THIS is why the contrast of Earthly living is so much fun and useful. When someone is nice, we know it is nice because we have experienced the opposite. When someone betrays a friendship, we know there is something better because we have experienced true friendship previously. The contrast allows the growth for redefining what friendship really is.

Everything here on Earth is for our benefit. It’s a matter of perspective.
